SecondoCerchio — The wines of Paolo Marchi, winegrower and agronomist in Tuscany

THE LABELS

TEN WINES ACROSS THREE TERRITORIES

THE REDS

CATTURASOGNI

Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Franc
TOSCANA ROSSO IGT PREMIUM

The wine that took shape most slowly in the cellar. Sangiovese provides structure, Merlot adds roundness, Cabernet Franc introduces that green, aromatic note that shifts the profile toward something personal. Aged in small oak barrels for twelve months, then in bottle for at least eight more. It does not rush to please: it needs time.

RUBIS

Cabernet sauvignon, Cabernet Franc
TOSCANA IGT – ROSSO PREMIUM

The first wine of the cellar. A Cabernet Sauvignon that finds its balance in Cabernet Franc — two expressions of the same varietal family that integrate without overlapping. Fermentation takes place in the barrels themselves: direct wood contact from the start. Fourteen, sixteen months of ageing. A wine for those who want to understand how Tuscany can work Cabernet with its own character.

VENTO FERMO

Sangiovese
TOSCANA IGT – ROSSO PREMIUM

Sangiovese with no additions. The name describes the character of the wine: there is strength, but it is still, not agitated. Violet and cherry are the most immediate notes; then comes the minerality, that stony note that comes from the soil. A wine worth waiting a year in bottle after purchase.

CANTO DELL’ACQUA

Sangiovese, Merlot, Colorino
CHIANTI CLASSICO DOCG

The cellar’s Chianti Classico. Colorino here is not just a supporting player — it brings structure and that clean tannicity that balances the Merlot. Twelve months in large barrels: the oak is present but never overwhelming. A Chianti Classico that does not try to impress on the first sip.

IL PRINCIPE

Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo
CHIANTI DOCG

Concrete fermentation is not nostalgia — it is a choice. Concrete breathes, regulates temperature, imparts no aromas. Sangiovese works without interference, with just a touch of Ciliegiolo to soften the tannins. A Chianti authentic in the most literal sense.

GIOCOLIERE

Sangiovese, Syrah
TOSCANA IGT – ROSSO FRESCO

The wine to open without ceremony. Syrah gives fruit and pepper, Sangiovese gives drinkability and freshness. Five months on the lees in steel — no oak, no added time. Ready on release and stays that way for a couple of years. For evenings when wine just needs to work.

“Six reds. Three territories, different blends, one common thread: the vineyard tended directly, the cellar as a place of listening, not correction.”

WHITES, ROSÉ AND SPARKLING

ARCHÈ

Sangiovese, Pinot Nero, Syrah
TOSCANA ROSATO IGT

Rosé from three grapes vinified separately: Sangiovese, Syrah, Pinot Nero. Skin contact is brief but precise. The result is a still rosé with real structure — not just an aperitif rosé, but a table rosé. Part steel, part oak barrel. Opens well after six months in bottle.

LA GIOSTRA

Chardonnay, Viognier, Vermentino
TOSCANA BIANCO IGT

Three whites of very different character revolving around the same axis: Chardonnay for body, Viognier for aromatics, Vermentino for saline freshness. Partial fermentation in tonneau brings complexity without heaviness. Better at the table than standing up.

EQUILIBRISTA

Vermentino
TOSCANA BIANCO IGT

Pure Vermentino. Fresh, floral, saline — everything this variety can give when it is in the right place. Three months on the lees, then bottle. Drinks well immediately, but gains something with a year.

9 – NOVE

Sangiovese, Chardonnay
METODO CLASSICO

The tirage takes place on 9 December each year — hence the name. Sangiovese and Chardonnay refermented in bottle for at least twenty-four months. Disgorgement is à la volée, still manual. A traditional method sparkling with the precise identity of Sangiovese: the Tuscan bubble.

“Four labels. Whites, rosé and sparkling: the same attention to the vineyard, different styles, another face of these three territories”.

THE STORY

WHY SECONDOCERCHIO

A story that began in 2009 and continues with every vintage.

There are things that can only be understood by doing them yourself. You can study a vineyard for years, advise a producer on every winery decision — and then go home and ask yourself: what would I have done?

SecondoCerchio is the answer to that question. Since 2009, three vineyards in Tuscany that Paolo Marchi tends directly, with the same principles he applies to his clients: small scale as a condition of quality, the right variety in the right place, the cellar as a place of listening.

It is not a parallel venture. It is the most direct form of consultancy: doing in person what one professes. Ten different labels, three different territories, one single approach.

“Every vintage is a conversation between vineyard and winery. I am only the translator.”
